Montclair Film will screen six films this weekend, Oct. 18-20, in its first annual documentary weekend. All the screenings will take place at Cinema505, 505 Bloomfield Ave. Directors George T. Nierenberg, Martha Shane, Eric Slade, Irene Taylor Brodsky and Sandy K. Boone will appear.
The weekend opens on Friday, Oct. 18, with Linda Goldstein Knowlton’s “We Are The Radical Monarchs,” at 7:30 p.m., about the Radical Monarchs, an alternative to Scouts for girls of color.
Saturday’s program includes “Narrowsburg,” directed by Martha Shane, at 1 p.m., about a French film producer and mafioso-turned-actor launching a film festival; “Moonlight Sonata: Deafness In Three Movements,” directed by Irene Taylor Brodsky, at 4 p.m., about a deaf boy learning to play “Moonlight Sonata;” the new, 4K restoration of the classic gospel music documentary “Say Amen, Somebody,” directed by Georg T. Nierenberg, at 7 p.m.
Sunday’s screenings include a 2 p.m. showing “J.R. ‘Bob’ Dobbs And The Church Of The Subgenius,” directed by Sandy K. Boone, about a parody religion; and the American Masters film “Rothko: Pictures Must Be Miraculous”, directed by Eric Slade, profiling the American artist Mark Rothko, at 5 p.m.
