Montclair has a new developer for 65 Church Street – the site of the former Hahne’s parking lot – and it’s not Pinnacle.
Bijou Properties, based out of Hoboken, has purchased 65 Church Street, a 0.832-acre development site in downtown Montclair, that will be a “best-in-class, boutique mixed-use property with ground-floor retail and up to five stories of residential space above,” JLL Capital Markets announced Monday. JLL Capital Markets marketed the property exclusively on behalf of the seller, Kensington Senior Living, and procured the buyer, Bijou Properties.
The site was owned by Kensington, who had plans for an assisted living facility at 65 Church Street. Back in 2016, Dick Grabowsky successfully sued the Township of Montclair and the court ruled in his favor, that there had been a conflict of interest, due to Mayor Jerry Fried and Councilo Nick Lewis being members of the church adjacent to the planned Kensington Montclair Assisted Living property, at the time it was approved.
