Montclair High School students organized an impactful Unity Walk on Sunday, June 8, drawing thousands to hear their experiences and walk with them to support Black Lives Matter movement.
Now, NJ Student Blackout, a group of student leaders from all over Essex County, have organized an Essex wide rally on Juneteenth 2020, Friday, June 19. Students will stand in solidarity with those who have lost their lives to police brutality. Locally, Montclair students need any support, including donations of snacks for the march portion of rally as well as donations of food for the closing portion of the event.
The Juneteenth event will be a two part day. Starting at 1 p.m., participants will have the rally and protest at 6 Lloyd Road in Montclair. Following the conclusion of the rally (around 4 p.m.), there will be a Liberation Celebration at Rand Park, with performers and possibly an open mic, a time for participants to enjoy each others’ talents and voices. There will also T-shirts available for sale.
