Name: Daniela Costanzo
Where do you live? Bloomfield!
When did you move there? I moved to Bloomfield from Montclair in 2015
Where did you grow up? Paterson!
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?
I am the owner of D*FIT studio. Prior to opening D*FIT 10 years ago, I spent 16 years in corporate America. I was always passionate about fitness, and with two years of planning I decided in 2011 to take a leap of faith and make fitness my career. Covid has definitely forced us to rethink and relook at every aspect of the business. It has led us to new opportunities such as setting up a Virtual Studio, that includes a library of our signature classes pre-recorded. In June we began to offer in-person classes outdoors in d*LOT. The turn out each week has been so amazing. The success of the outdoor classes made it an easy decision for us make the investment in a commercial tent. Our 40×60 tent allows us 2400 square feet dedicated to keeping our community healthy, happy and safe. We keep moving ahead and won’t look back!
Coffee, tea or …? Strong coffee.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?
It starts with not having to set my alarm (typically an early riser) and sleeping until my body wakes up. Waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and enjoying it in bed. If it is cold, I am a homebody, cooking, sipping, hanging by the fire. Warmer days I like to be out either in NYC (The Village) or Hudson NY. Getting out seeing and meeting new people is something I enjoy. You can learn so much if you explore, put the phone down, and talk to people. I LOVE IT!
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Oooh, this is hard. My go to spots are DaPepo, Fabourg, Mesob, LaMoon Thai.
What’s on your nightstand? iPhone, Theramu CBD, and the book I am currently reading The Ride of a Lifetime.
What are you listening to? Being in fitness, music is part of my DNA. I LOVE music. On my rotation: Jay Z, The National, Alicia Keys, Notorious B.I.G, Kings of Leon.
What are your current indulgences? APEM Creamery in Bloomfield. The flavors are ridiculous. A few of my favorite house-made gelato are Black Sesame, Banana & Ganache, Green Tea, Cardamon Coffee… The list goes on.
What talent you would most like to have? A performer, so I could play Tina Turner in the Broadway show TINA.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? Most that come to Montclair think of Bloomfield Avenue or Church Street as areas to stroll, BUT Walnut Street has so much to offer as well with less traffic. Great restaurants, bakeries, pizza, coffee shop, brewery, the farmers market, clothing stores, art, fitness and more…
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? Daniela’s heart was as big as her love for inspiring people. She was always willing to help and get in “good trouble” when needed.
