Addie Belle Hite Beverly of Montclair died peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 18, 2021. She was 88.

Mrs. Beverly was born in 1932 to the late Robert I. Hite and Lucy Walker Hite in Lawrenceville, Va., the youngest of four girls and nine boys, in addition to two stepsisters and two stepbrothers.  

The family was raised in the rolling farmlands of Brunswick County, in an area formerly known as Charley Hope, which was later incorporated into the town of Lawrenceville.  Her grandmother, Elizabeth Walker, and her stepfather, Henry Wilkins, played an active and invaluable role in her life while helping to raise her.

On April 17, 1954, she married John H. Beverly, and they relocated to Montclair. They had four children, John R., who preceded her in death, Cheryl V., David L. and Robbin R. Beverly-Tann. 

Mrs. Beverly was a homemaker while raising her children and was an active Jehovah’s Witnesses member. She was a great woman of faith and fiercely obedient to her religion.

Mrs. Beverly was a resident of Montclair Care Center for the past 2½ years.

She is survived by three children, Cheryl Beverly of Las Vegas, N.M., David Beverly (Tonette) of Westampton and Robbin Beverly-Tann (Robert) of Montclair; seven grandchildren, Wayne Hinton of Norfolk, Va., Frederick Hinton of Norfolk, KayLoni Murry-Whitted of Roselle, Ti’Yonna Beverly of Westampton, JaWuan Beverly of Newark, Shawn Tann of Montclair and Jalen Beverly of Westampton, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Besides her husband and her son John, Mrs. Beverly was preceded in death by all of her 16 siblings, Robert Cleveland, Leon Isaac, Mary, Allen, George, Lucy Mae, Josephine, James, John, Willie, Benjamin and Wilbur, and stepbrothers and stepsisters Charlie, Lona Mae, Henry Wilkins and Ruby Hopkins. 

Private services were held at Martin’s Home for Service. Interment was at Mt. Poplar Baptist Church cemetery in Virginia.
