The skies were clear over Church Street last Thursday, but it was raining cookies for some lucky people.

Downtown shoppers, diners, joggers and dog walkers plucked boxes of cookies dangled by drones. The event marked the start of a marketing campaign for Bahlsen European Biscuits (think cookies) by Montclair’s Looney Advertising.

Nearly a year in the making, it’s the first time the Federal Aviation Administration has approved a marketing stunt like this with real people in an urban area, according to a reps from Looney Advertising.

“We love shooting close to home, our agency headquarters and new production building. This was a complex shoot and Montclair is such a unique town, it was the perfect backdrop. A lot of friends, family and locals stopped by to make cameo appearances, which was fun,” said Sean Looney, CEO.
