Northeast School held a silent march Friday, Jan. 14 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Students held signs with messages of equality for all and marched around the school building to “show the importance of courageous, peaceful protest,” principal Mike Chiles said in a Jan. 11 message to the school community.
Before and after the march, teachers facilitated discussions about the importance of peaceful marching activities, and ways of bettering the community by serving others, Chiles said in his message. Parents and community members were invited to watch the march from a safe distance, the message said.
