The Montclair police department, in partnership with Montclair public schools, kicked off the Law Enforcement Against Drugs program on Friday, March 18 at Renaissance Middle School.
The L.E.A.D. program is a law enforcement focused anti-drug/alcohol, anti-violence program for K-12 students. The 10-week program focuses on how students can make smart decisions without getting involved with drugs or violence. The program will be taught to sixth-graders once a week for 45 minutes.
“I would like to thank [schools Superintendent Jonathan] Ponds for the partnership with the Police Department to offer the L.E.A.D. Program for the students of our community,” Montclair Police Department Chief Todd Conforti said in an announcement of the program.
The Montclair Police Department currently has six instructors that are assigned to the Juvenile Aid Bureau and Community Service Unit. The instructors for the kickoff were Detective DePoe, Detective Sanders, Detective Rusiniak and Patrolman Higgins.
Detectives Cook and Falais will be instructors in the future. Lt. Williams commands the Juvenile Aid Bureau and the Community Service Unit.
