Montclair, NJ – A man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a train Monday evening.

According to New Jersey Transit spokesperson Jim Smith, at approximately 9:40 p.m. Montclair Boonton Line train 1087, which departed Hoboken at 8:58 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Hackettstown at 11:07 p.m., struck and fatally injured an adult male on a bicycle prior to Watchung Ave. station in Montclair. No injuries were reported to the seven customers or the crew on board at the time. Montclair-Boonton Line rail service was temporarily suspended in both directions between Walnut Street and Upper Montclair but has since resumed. New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation.
