MONTCLAIR, NJ- In honor of Montclair’s first-ever Pride celebration, taking place on June 11, 2022, Montclair Film announced it has partnered with Out Montclair to present CELEBRATING PRIDE!, a film program exploring LGBTQIA+ storytelling.
The 18-film program will launch on May 6 and culminate on June 11 during Pride. Screenings will take place at The Clairidge, Montclair Film’s non-profit six-screen arthouse cinema, with a special free community screening of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, featuring a live floor show performance by The Ordinary Kids, taking place outdoors at Lackawanna Plaza on Friday June 3, at 7:30 PM, and a special presentation of THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, screening at The Clairidge on Saturday, June 11 as part of Out Montclair’s Pride celebration. Film information, tickets, and showtimes for all films in the CELEBRATING PRIDE! program can be found at theclairidge.org
“For decades now, film and the arts have helped break the stigma of being LGBTQIA+ in this world by giving people connection to stories they can relate to and by extension, affirmation. With everything happening in the world today, it’s as important now as ever before that our stories continue to be told, not just for our own affirmation but so that allyship and relatability to who we are continues to improve,” said Out Montclair President, Peter Yacobellis. “Out Montclair is thankful to and proud to partner with Montclair Film on this incredible five-week showcase of LGBTQIA+ people and their stories, through the power of film,” he added.
“Montclair Film is excited to partner with Out Montclair to present a diverse program of films that speak to the wonderful range of experience and expression in LGBTQIA+ cinema,” said Montclair Film Executive Director and Co-Head Beth Gottung. “The entire organization is looking forward to welcoming our community to the movies as we join together for Montclair’s first-ever Pride celebration.”
