West Orange, NJ – If you haven’t been to Essex Green in West Orange recently, there’s a lot of change and construction at the shopping center built back in the 1950s. A Five Guys opened recently; a Burlington and a Five Below are among the other new stores coming in what’s now being called Essex Green Town Center. There’s also a Starbucks with a drive thru closer near the two hotels at the end of the shopping complex.

Nearby, there is a redevelopment project at the office park on Executive Drive which is slated to become new offices and luxury apartments joined by a new public library.

Essex County closed the vaccination center at the former KMart in West Orange.

We may see movement at the former KMart now that it has ceased being a COVID vaccination center. During a meeting of the West Orange Economic Development Commission, at the 12:45 mark, talk of a new concept of Target coming to the space is discussed, but the store has not yet appeared on Target’s corporate list of upcoming stores.

West Orange recently got love from the New York Times for its open space and housing that’s more affordable than Montclair or Maplewood.
