The week in Montclair crime from Lieutenant Terence Turner, Montclair Police Department:
Motor Vehicle Crime
April 26, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was sitting in his 2017 Mercedes Benz which was parked on Bloomfield Avenue when a black male wearing a mask exited a white Range Rover and attempted to open the front driver’s side door to his vehicle. The victim closed the door and the suspect retreated to the Range Rover, and fled east on Bloomfield Avenue. The Range Rover was reported stolen out of Parsippany.
April 29, 2022 (Alexander Avenue): The victim reported that her 2020 BMW X7 was entered and rummaged through. Surveillance video shows the suspect arrive at 1:15 AM and enter the driver’s side of the BMW. The brake lights illuminate in an apparent sign that the suspect attempted to start the vehicle. When unsuccessful, the suspect flees to an awaiting vehicle.
Damage to Motor Vehicle
April 27, 2022 (New Street): The resident reported that it appears as though an unknown person shot a bullet into his vehicle two days prior. He stated that his vehicle was parked on New Street at the time. He received a video of the shooting take place. In the video, the suspect vehicle, possibly a red colored sedan, travels south on New Street from Bloomfield Avenue with the headlights off. As the suspect’s vehicle passes the victim’s vehicle, it appears that one shot is fired from the driver side of the suspect’s vehicle, striking the driver side lower portion of the victim’s front windshield. The victim’s vehicle was unoccupied. No injuries were reported.
Theft
April 28, 2022 (Park Street): The complainant reported that her wallet was stolen from her bag while she was working out at the YMCA. The wallet contained her license, two debit cards, and $100.00 in cash.
April 30, 2022 (Walnut Street): The complainant reported that her black and white women’s Hybrid Bicycle weas stolen while she attended the Farmer’s Market. The bike had been locked and was valued at approximately $500.00.
Arrests
April 27, 2022 (Church Street): A 40-year-old male from West Orange was charged with Terroristic Threats, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct after officers responded to a disturbance on Church Street.
April 29, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 32-year-old male was charged with Disorderly Conduct after officers responded to a disturbance on Bloomfield Avenue.
