MONTCLAIR, NJ – Last year, officials at the state, county and local level turned out for the first ever Montclair Pride month flag raising in the township of Montclair, as a result of efforts initiated by Councilor At Large Peter Yacobellis.
Last year’s event took place in front of the town municipal building. This Friday, the Township of Montclair will hold its now annual LGBTQIA+ Pride Month flag-raising ceremony on Friday, June 3, at 3 p.m., in the town center at the corner of Church Street and South Fullerton Avenue. The Township recognizes the start of Pride Month by flying the Pride Progress flag as a symbol of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and the ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice.
Speakers will include Montclair Mayor Sean M. Spiller, Montclair Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jonathan C. Ponds, and Councilor-at-Large Peter Yacobellis, who is also the president of Out Montclair, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering community and providing support and solidarity for the LGBTQIA+ population of Montclair, NJ.
Out Montclair will host the first-ever Montclair Pride Festival on Saturday, June 11, with a star-studded line up including the recent Broadway cast of “Jagged Little Pill,” Dyllón Burnside from “Pose,” as well as Judy Gold as emcee for the Main Stage. Out Montclair selected local LGBTQIA+ talent to perform on the School of Rock Stage for kids and family – including Lady Keyante, Robert Bannon, Eddie Nicholas and Luis Rodriguez.
