Montclair, NJ- Get to know the life of America’s favorite troubled soul and his child bride as The Northern NJ Chapter of the Victorian Society in America (VSA-NNJ) presents “The Life & Times of Edgar Allan Poe” on Monday, September 19.
The 19th Century poet, fiction writer, editor and literary critic is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre and was one of the earliest American writers of the short story. He even helped develop modern code cracking, a tool that helped the Allies win World War II.
However, what we may think we know about Poe and his family, and their existence in early 19th Century America, has been shaped by some very strange forces. Join independent Poe scholar Ava Caridad as we learn more about Poe, his troubled life and times and his contribution to many modern ways of thinking and celebrate the bicentennial of the birth of Poe’s wife, Virginia Clemm Poe.
