Name: Sara Miller

Where do you live? Belleville, NJ

When did you move there? 2016

Where did you grow up? Latrobe, PA (about 45 minutes outside of Pittsburgh)

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion? I own Stuff by SJ Custom Cakes on Bloomfield Ave in Montclair. I decorate & design custom cakes!

Coffee, tea or … ? Coffee! LARGE please! With cream & a little caramel swirl!

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Well… my weekends are pretty full these days decorating and designing custom cakes! But…when given a free moment, I like to enjoy a nice brunch with a mimosa and spending time with my family doing outdoor activities.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? This is a tough question because there are so many great restaurants in town. If I had to choose one, I think I’d pick Kai Yang. I didn’t think I liked Thai food until I ate there and now we get it often. Honorable mention to Boomchiaa because sometimes when I’m in at 4 AM working on cakes and noon rolls around and I’m losing steam, it brings me back to life.

What’s on your nightstand? Tissues, my iPad, and some miscellaneous clutter.

What are you listening to? I run through a lot of podcasts while doing custom cakes, but my favorite is probably Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. Also, there’s always a Beyonce vibe when I need a boost.

What are your current indulgences? I love a good ice cream, and I love a good bottle of wine (not necessarily together).

What talent you would most like to have? I wish I was able to sing well because when I sing along to songs in the car my kid yells, “Mom, don’t sing!”

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair? I don’t know if it’s a secret, but the thing that’s blown me away about Montclair is the way that everyone supports and lifts the local businesses in town. I’m grateful and flattered how kind and supportive everyone has been since I opened the shop last year.

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? I hope people say that I worked hard, was kind to others, and my art made people smile.
