Montclair, NJ – Watchung Booksellers, in partnership with AAPI Montclair, will celebrate AAPI Heritage Month in May with two special events featuring Asian American writers.
On Wednesday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m., Ava Chin shares her newly released memoir Mott Street: A Chinese American Family’s Story of Exclusion and Homecoming. Mott Street is a sweeping narrative history of the Chinese Exclusion Act through an intimate portrayal of one family’s epic journey to lay down roots in America. Ms. Chin will be in conversation with Marina Budhos, author of the YA novel, We Are All We Have.
On Tuesday, May 30 at 4:00 p.m., children’s book author Lynnor Bontigao will read her new picture book, Sari-Sari Summers. In this love letter to the Philippines (and to grandmothers), a young girl comes up with a brilliantly delicious way to attract customers after a heat wave leaves her lola’s store empty.
Both events are free. Register at watchungbooksellers.com/events.
