On Monday, July 17, a complainant reported that she was walking her father to a home on Maple Avenue leaving her aunt sitting in the rear of a 2023 Porsche Macan. The individual reported three males wearing sweatshirts covering their faces entered the Porsche and attempted to drive away. When the individual screamed and the males saw that the vehicle was occupied, they fled from the vehicle and entered Glenfield Park.

Entered Vehicles

Tuesday, July 11 to Tuesday, July 18: Police received reports of entered vehicles during the week of July 11 to July 18. Vehicles were entered on Pleasant Avenue, Rosedale Avenue, Highland Avenue and Undercliff Road. In most cases, the vehicles were left unlocked. In one incident, the passenger side window was shattered and a Louis Vuitton bag valued at $1,000 was stolen.

 

Counterfeit 

Tuesday, July 11: A complainant reported that over the course of several weeks, an individual entered his business on Church Street, World Flats, and used counterfeit $100 bills. The individual received change during each transaction. The business lost approximately $225.

 

Motor Vehicle Crime

Wednesday, July 12: A resident reported that his 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan was stolen from his driveway on Highland Avenue during the overnight hours. It was recovered the following day on Allen Street in Irvington.

Thursday, July 13: A complainant reported that his 2019 Honda Accord was stolen while he left it unattended to pick up a food order on Bloomfield Avenue. Upon exiting, he observed it fleeing east. The vehicle contained his iPhone 14. The vehicle was recovered the following day in Newark.

 

Suspicious Incident

Friday, July 14: At approximately 4 a.m., an officer conducting store checks in the area of Valley Road and Van Vleck Street observed a suspicious male wearing a ski mask peering into the window of Krauszer’s Food Store. When the officer approached, the male quickly entered the passenger side of a gray BMW SUV. The officer attempted to stop the BMW, which fled at a high rate of speed north on Valley Road. A second officer observed the fleeing BMW turn onto Appleton Place. Two males fled from the vehicle on foot and evaded capture. The BMW was determined to be stolen from East Rutherford. Entry into Krauszer’s was not successful.

 

Stolen Gas

Friday, July 14: A black Acura ILX entered the Shell gas station on Bloomfield Avenue and had the vehicle filled with $50 in premium gasoline. The vehicle fled east without paying. The vehicle was occupied by four individuals in their mid-twenties.

Monday, July 17: A newer model Lamborghini SUV with temporary registration entered the Shell gas station on Bloomfield Avenue and received $107 worth of gas. The vehicle fled east e without paying.

Tuesday, July 18: A black Audi occupied by three males received $56 worth of gas from the Lukoil gas station on Valley Road. The vehicle fled west on Lorraine Avenue after not making payment. The Audi was determined to be a stolen vehicle from Cedar Grove.

 

Burglary

Monday, July 17: A complainant reported that someone entered an abandoned building on Glenridge Avenue through the rear, most likely by pushing open a boarded-up window. Once inside, the individual(s) stole two glass window panes and fled through the first-floor rear door. The window panes measured approximately 5 feet by 2 feet and were made of stained glass. The complainant valued them at approximately $2,500 each. In addition, a shop light valued at $100 was stolen.

 

Arrest

Friday, July 14: A 44-year-old male from Montclair was charged with defiant trespass and disorderly conduct following a dispute on Park Street.
