Tomorrow, August 12, starting at noon and lasting until 10 p.m., the annual Montclair Jazz Festival Block Party happens rain or shine at Lackawanna Plaza! This year marks a record-breaking gathering of musical talents, with more than 160 up-and-coming musicians from 5 different states and 6 different continents performing in Montclair.
Emerging musicians who participated in the 2-week award-winning JAZZ HOUSE Summer Workshop held on the campus of Montclair State University take the stage at noon. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., stage host Nicole Sweeney from Newark’s WBGO introduces trailblazing guitarist Charlie Sigler and his quartet, who will be followed by one of the most vibrant artists on the scene today, Endea Owens & The Cookout at 6 p.m.
Get ready to dance the night away as one of Montclair’s biggest street dance parties kicks off at 7:30 p.m.! DJ Brother Mister, also known as Christian McBride, will be playing a mix of classic hits on original vinyl from his favorite era of dance music, which spans from the 1960s to the 1990s. With his exceptional bass-playing skills, he’ll be sure to add some extra flair to the music and keep the party going all night long.
Families with young children will be happy to visit the Family Jazz Discovery Zone, a special place where kids and their families can gather to play, improvise, create, make new friends, and, of course, share a passion for jazz.
This is a celebration you won’t want to miss!
