Montclair Public Library, in collaboration with Montclair Local, is proud to present an engaging event as part of the Open Book/Open Mind series, MPL’s popular and long-running literary conversation series. Join us on Saturday, October 7 at 4 p.m. for a captivating conversation featuring renowned New York Times reporter Adam Nagourney, who will discuss his latest book, “The Times: How the Newspaper of Record Survived Scandal, Scorn, and the Transformation of Journalism,” with NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik.

After the discussion, audience members will participate in a live Q&A session with the author. A book signing with Watchung Booksellers will follow the event.

Nagourney covers West Coast cultural affairs for The New York Times. He was previously the Los Angeles bureau chief and served eight years as the chief national political correspondent. He is the co-author of “Out for Good,” a history of the modern gay rights movement.

Folkenflik serves as NPR’s media correspondent. His stories and analyses are broadcast on the network’s news magazines, such as All Things Considered, Morning Edition and Here & Now, and are featured on NPR’s website and mobile platforms. Folkenflik is the author of “Murdoch’s World: The Last of the Old Media Empires.” He lives in Montclair.

“We are especially proud to collaborate with our own local independent news organization to bring this important book about the history of the New York Times to our community,” says library director Janet Torsney.

“As an independent nonprofit local news organization, our mission is to provide insightful, timely and reliable news that empowers our residents to stay informed and engaged,” says Montclair Local publisher Liz George. “We’re proud to collaborate with Montclair Public Library in bringing thought-provoking events like this to our community.”

  1. Can’t wait. Diversity is the Montclair vibe, and nothing says diverse like the Times and NPR getting together.
