Montclair High School students in the School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA) will present its annual five-show showcase, “Put Another Dime! Hits from the Jukebox,” beginning October 27.
The title references Joan Jett’s classic anthem, “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” whose lyrics call upon listeners to “put another dime in the jukebox, baby.” In the SVPA production, the jukebox takes center stage—used as a portal to transport the cast and audience to different musical universes: a garage, cafe/bar, a record store and a disco. This year’s musical revue features classics from artists such as Frank Sinatra and Motown performers to current hits by Rihanna.
The show was conceived and directed by returning Montclair High School alumnus Esai Siddeeq, who 10 years ago was a member of the “Showcase” technical crew. Siddeeq also performed on stage in SVPA musicals, including “Hairspray,” “In the Heights” and “RENT.” His professional credits include voiceover work with Nickelodeon, a national tour with Missoula Children’s Theater and Shenandoah Summer Music Theater.

Performances are scheduled for October 27, 28, November 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and November 5 at 3 p.m. in the Little Theater, Montclair High School George Innes Annex, 141 Park St.

About Showcase
“Showcase” is an annual event that dates back to the 1980s. While it pays tribute to SVPA’s seniors, the cast includes students from all grades at the high school. About 80+ students are involved in the production, including on-stage performers, a pit band and a full tech crew.
SVPA focuses on co-curricular activities that highlight students’ skills and talents. Staged events during the course of the year include a fall showcase, winter play and spring musical theater production. In addition to the performing component, the program also provides an outlet for students who want to support the theater as part of the technical crew, including stage design, sound, lighting and more.
