Aging in Montclair will host Tai Chi instructor Pamela Leo for a Saturday Social Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.

Leo will discuss and demonstrate Tai Chi Chuan (Supreme Ultimate Fist). This ancient Chinese martial art combines Chinese boxing techniques and controlled sequential movement with deep concentration, focusing the mind and directing the body’s internal energy, the group said in an announcement of the event.

Leo will present a brief history of Tai Chi and introduce concepts of Chinese martial arts that work together to move the body through the sequence of Tai Chi movements. She will demonstrate the Ba Duan Jin Qigong set, traditional martial art warm-up exercises and the Beijing Tai Chi short form. Those who want to try these movements with her should Zoom in a space that offers the opportunity to move around, the groiu said.

Leo has been a student of Tai Chi Chuan for over 25 years and has been teaching the Beijing Tai Chi short form since 2001. She currently studies martial arts at Al Bender’s Kung Fu Academy. She has studied with Bow Sim Mark in Boston and attended summer workshops and intensives through the Taste of China program, including instruction in the Yang Tai Chi style and Qigong. Leo formerly taught Tai Chi at the Montclair YMCA and currently teaches Tai Chi at Union County College.
