Award-winning robotics learning center opening in Montclair (SPONSORED)
This article is paid content provided by Rocket Club, 151 Forest St., which will be opening for the Fall 2020 semester.
Rocket Club, the winner of NJ Tech Council 2019 Innovation in Education Award, is a first-of-its-kind after school learning center for 8 to 14 year olds who want to learn all about robotics, coding, and entrepreneurship. Beginning today, Rocket Club is opening a limited number of inaugural memberships for their Fall semester (March – June) at their new state of the art Montclair location at 151 Forest Street. Rocket Club’s curriculum is designed to train the next Elon Musks of the world:
Robotics: Each Rocket Club member uses a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Education Kit to build robotic race cars, cranes, claws, and Mars Rovers. Throughout the first semester, Rocket Club members will learn how to bring wheels, gears, axles, joints, and pulleys to life. They’ll learn the basic concepts of mechanisms, electronics and physics.
Coding: Members will learn how to program and control robots to perform tasks. They’ll be introduced to virtual reality, augmented reality and game development. They’ll program with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 software.
Entrepreneurship: Each Rocket Club member launches their own business. Rocket Club members will learn hands-on basics of financial modeling, branding, marketing and operations. Members will gain exclusive access to a network of accomplished advisors and mentors.
Rocket Club’s award winning curriculum was built by enlisting the help of robotics experts, virtual and augmented reality professionals, nine entrepreneurial “Forbes: 30 under 30” winners, and a NASA engineer.
Rocket Club introduces members to amazing connections: When Rocket Club members start their businesses, instructors work to find industry leaders that can help take their business to the next level. Below are just a few connections created last semester:
Here are just a few of the business Rocket Club students (8 to 14 years old) have built:
- The world’s FIRST Robotic Lemonade Stand.
- Calligraphi – A robotic arm that writes cards in calligraphy.
- Growinlow – Small batch basil grown from a hydroponic garden.
The curriculum is unique and grows as opportunities come their way.
Last semester, Rocket Club was approached by the Executive Producer of a virtual reality feature film. The film needed someone to upgrade a tiny electric vehicle that could only carry 40 pounds. The Executive Producer needed a car that could be driven by an adult. The members leveraged their robotics skills and were able to accomplish the task in just a few weeks. Each member will earn a credit in the upcoming film…not a bad resume booster for an 8-14 year old!
They plan on collaborating with The Feliciano Center For Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Montclair State University.
Rocket Club has also donated to the Montclair High School FIRST Robotics Team and hope to get even more involved in the community.
