Blood drive in Montclair May 10
On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 1 to 7 p.m., the Montclair Branch NAACP Health Committee will collaborate with the Mayor’s Wellness Initiative, Sickle Cell Association of NJ, and the Montclair Women’s Club for a blood drive at the Montclair Women’s Club, 82 Union St.
Blood donors can make appointments by visiting nybc.org/njdrive and using group code 71133, or texting 917-699-9073. For more information, contact NAACP Health Committee Chair Rosita Dotson at 973-462-3530 or Anita Clark at 973-744-3701.
"While we are certainly not out of the woods yet, the COVID-19 crisis is an important wakeup call to all of us as to how precious a life is,” and to support local blood drives is an example of how we can give back to the community to replenish vital blood reserves, Montclair NAACP President Roger S. Terry said in an announcement from the group.
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds healthcare providers across the nation depend upon blood supplies to help save lives, the NAACP noted in its announcement. Nearly 29,000 units of red blood cells, 5,000 units of platelets and 6,500 units of plasma are needed on a daily basis, it said.
