Buzz Aldrin Middle School took home 11 awards in an art contest held by the Newark and Suburban Architects’ chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Students in Jeannette Rodriguez’s spring architecture class submitted their artwork to the competition, which was open to middle school students in North Jersey. The works had to feature a building, group of buildings or a place defined by architecture that incorporated a holiday feeling or setting, according to a Montclair school district press release about the awards.

The following students received awards:

  • Gold Award: Arianna Lamb
  • Silver Award: Emily Gyan, Mason Lin
  • Bronze Award: Lily Kikata, James Rae, Lena Shapiro, Hanna Nwoso
  • Honorable Mention: Clara Brooks-LaBlanc, Anna Rutledge, Mia Wallace, Isabelle Hayes

“Everyone’s work was beautiful and thoughtful, and it made us very proud,” Rodriguez said in the release.

The students’ artwork is featured in a free exhibition at the main branch of the Montclair Public Library.
