The Montclair girls lacrosse team might have finished with a 9-9 record, but they can say that they reached the Essex County Tournament title game this past spring.
Montclair boys lacrosse showed at times that it has plenty of potential, especially in a victory over Ridgewood. The squad came close to upsetting Bridgewater-Raritan, 11-8, in the North Group 4 state quarterfinals against a team that won eventual win Group 4. The Mounties finished with an 8-11 record.
Montclair High School seniors, Kiya Lawson and Elizabeth Fitzgerald, collected medals at the June 18th State Meet of Champions at Franklin High School. Lawson won the 200-meter state title and came in second in the 100-meter race. Fitzgerald finished second in the state in the pole vault.
Cecil Stinson, a 2006 graduate of Montclair High School and most recently head coach at Cristo Rey Newark High School, is taking over as MHS boys basketball head coach this year from Gary Wallace.
Montclair High School senior Kiya Lawson won the 200-meter dash at the Group 4 track and field meet the weekend of June 10 and 11. Lawson qualified for Saturday, June 18th State Meet of Champions in the 200- and 100-meter races as well as part of the 400-meter relay.
