Tanya Manning-Yarde and Carla M. Cherry will hold a poetry showcase and book signing on Saturday, Jan. 6, 6:30 p.m., at Adinkra House, 26 Pleasant Ave. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) Manning-Yarde will be performing poetry from her debut book, “Every Watering Word,” and Cherry will perform from her newest publication, “Honeysuckle Me,” and earlier publications, “Gnat Feathers and Butterfly Wings” and “Thirty Dollars and a Bowl of Soup.”

Carla M. Cherry is an English teacher and poet from New York City. A graduate of Spelman College, New York University, and Lehman College, she has been published in Anderbo, For Harriet, Obscura, Dissident Voice, Random Sample Review, Eunoia Review, Bop Dead City, MemoryHouse Magazine, Down in the Dirt, and In Between Hangovers.  Inspired by her work with her students and graduate thesis, “Using Aesthetic Education to Develop Critical Analysis and Writing Carla is writing a book about connecting visual art with literacy. Tanya Manning-Yarde, Ph.D., is a freelance writer and former educator from New York City. A graduate of Rutgers University and University at Albany, she recently worked as a copy editor and contributing writer for Bronze Magazine. She is a freelance blogger for the annual Montclair Film Festival in Montclair, NJ as well as blogger for her own website (tmychronicles.wordpress.com).  Her poems have been published by Literary Mama, Memoryhouse and Random Sample Review. Inspired by her dissertation titled “Literacy as Contextualized Action,” and homeschooling her two sons until school age, she is drafting a book on literacy and homeschooling.
