Four Montclair residents received awards for the 2019 Essex County Senior Legacies Writing Contest. Roger Birnbaum of Montclair had a winning story with "A Night at the Opera," Robin Ehrlichmann Woods of Montclair had a winning story with "Inevitably Invisible," Virginia Cornue of Montclair had a winning story with "Little Piggy" and Belinda Plutz of Montclair received an honorable mention for "The Gift."

Kerry Barnett from South Orange received the Director's Award for "Remorse," Vincent Dahmen of West Orange received an honorable mention for "The Myth of Invincibility," Ronald Merritt of Nutley received an honorable mention for "Summer of '55," and Gwen S. Toub of Short Hills had a winning essay with "Marian Anderson and Me."

The awards were presented during a luncheon in the Essex County Robert O'Toole Community Center in Cedar Grove Park on Tuesday, May 21.

The Senior Legacies Writing Contest encourages Essex senior citizens to write essays about the people and events that have influenced their lives.
