Opera in the Garden: Excerpts from Hansel and Gretel

On Thursday, June 21, 2018, 7 PM, Opera Theatre of Montclair will present a fun, family-friendly, shortened, narrated, semi-staged version of Humperdinck’s operatic version of the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel. This will be the second performance in the Opera in the Garden series to be presented on the back lawn at the renowned Van Vleck House and Gardens. Bring the whole family as well as your picnic basket and a blanket/lawn chair. The kids may be asked to volunteer as angels, Gingerbread Children or to help The Sandman put Hansel and Gretel to sleep in the forest! The performance will be sung in an English translation from the original German.
In the event of rain, the program will be moved inside the mansion – children will have a front-row seat on the floor together.
This program will serve as a Preview of Opera Theatre of Montclair’s full production with orchestra which will be staged on September 22, 23, 29 and 30, 2018. It is presented, in part, through a grant from The County of Essex.
