TRU Producer Boot Camp, Recognizing Commercial Potential: Is This Show Worth Investing In?

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents a new TRU Producer Boot Camp, Recognizing Commercial Potential: Is This Show Worth Investing In?, an innovative workshop on Sunday, June 14th, 2015 from 12:00pm to 4:00 pm at The Playroom Theatre, 151 W. 46th Street, 8th Floor, NYC.


This half-day workshop offers valuable insights for producers as well as investors, and some practical tips for determining the viability of the project you feel most passionate about. Bottom line: Is it a good investment? A panel of commercial Broadway and off-Broadway producers and investors will offer their experience and observations and discuss the strategies they use for picking the projects they support. Moderated by attorney Eric S. Goldman, the panel will feature: Patrick Blake (Bedlam Theatre’s Hamlet/St. Joan, My Life Is a Musical, The Exonerated, Play Dead, In the Continuum); Neil Danoff (The Audience, Something Rotten, Bridges of Madison County, All the Way); Van Dean of The Broadway Consortium (The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess with 4 other Tony® Award nominations for the revivals of Evita, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Catch Me If You Can; also Matilda, Big Fish, Bonnie & Clyde, Chinglish, Rooms: a rock romance), and general partner on The Velocity of Autumn; Jeremy Handelman (On the Town, White’s Lies, F#@king Up Everything), and Cheryl Wiesenfeld (The Heidi Chronicles, Rocky, Legally Blonde, Tony Awards for: All the Way, Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, The Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, Elaine Stritch: At Liberty).

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) is a twenty-three year old 501c3 nonprofit organization created to help producers produce, emerging theater companies to emerge healthily and all theater professionals to understand and navigate the business of theater. Membership includes self-producing artists as well as career producers and theater companies.


TRU publishes an email community newsletter of services, goods and productions; presents the TRU VOICES Annual New Play Reading Series and Annual New Musicals Reading Series, two new works series in which TRU underwrites developmental readings to nurture new shows as well as new producers for theater; TRU offers a Producer Development & Mentorship Program whose mentors are among the most prominent producers and general managers in New York Theater, and also presents Producer Boot Camp workshops to help aspirants develop the business skills they need. TRU serves writers through a Writer-Producer Speed Date, a Practical Playwriting Workshop and a Director-Writer Communications Lab; programs for actors include the Annual Combined Audition and quarterly Resource Nights and “Speed Dating” as well as free monthly actor workshops.
