Driver taken to hospital in rollover crash at Grove, Watchung

A 58-year-old Montclair woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after her SUV crashed and rolled over at the intersection of Grove Street and Watchung Avenue.

The woman was traveling east on Watchung Avenue at 9:23 a.m. when she collided with a van driven by a 36-year-old Newark man who was traveling north on Grove Street. The van struck the SUV on its passenger side causing the SUV to roll over on impact, Police Lt. David O'Dowd said.

The woman was suspended upside down by her seatbelt. After retraction, she was taken to Mountainside Hospital for observation. The van driver was not injured.

The SUV sustained damage to its passenger side, and its side airbag was deployed. The van sustained front-end damage, and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

The accident is under investigation at this time, O'Dowd said.
