Gunshots fired, six shell casings found in Montclair, police say
Multiple shots were fired in Montclair Saturday, but no gunshot wounds had been reported as of Tuesday, police said.
At 3:23 p.m. on Saturday, Montclair police responded to the area of Washington Street and New Street on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located six spent shell casings in the intersection.
The preliminary investigation indicated a black vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic, occupied by two males was shooting at a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Chevy Malibu, also occupied by two males, police said. The Civic was last seen fleeing west on Fulton Street toward Elm Street. The Malibu was last seen traveling south on Maple Avenue, police said.
All area hospitals were checked for victims of gunshot wounds with negative results. Police said on Tuesday they don't know if anyone in the Malibu was struck by gunfire. The incident remains under investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Daniel Heiser at 973-509-4724.
