The person in this photograph — name unknown — appears in several different pictures in our historic collection, likely taken on or around the same day. In each photograph, he appears to be in the process of bringing books to and from the Bellevue Avenue Branch Library in Upper Montclair (and having a great time doing it!).
Make no mistake — delivery at Montclair Public Library is not a thing of the past. We’ve come a long way since 1940, when this photograph depicting the MPL’s book delivery service was taken in 1940 — but our commitment to bringing books (and more!) to the people in our community remains the same.
Our home delivery service began 86 years ago in 1933 and is still going strong today. Montclair residents who are unable to leave their home on a permanent or temporary basis may qualify for this service. We’re also using our new bookmobile, an electric tuk-tuk, to bring books to various locations and events in Montclair and promote reading in our community.
