In brief: Nov. 16 is Lackawanna Local Motion day
Lackawanna Local Motion, a fundraiser to raise funds for the legal fees in the suit against the development, will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Montclair Brewery.
The Brewery will be hosting the event,10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., with live music including Meg Beattie Patrick and Michael Alan Williams, The Michael Reitman Band, The Black Lace Blues Band and A group jam with Rostafa. Also showcased will be the Montclair High School student alternative concepts for Lackawanna Plaza. The student concepts all include a supermarket, parking ideas and adaptive reuse of a historic structure. Several concepts open Toney’s Brook for flood control and the incorporation of a park-like setting.
The day will feature a new brew — Lackawanna Ale. A $25 supporter’s package includes a beer and special perks. A $50 VIP package also includes a commemorative poster, and a tour and Q&A with Brewmaster and brewery co-owner Leo Sawadogo. All ages are welcome, and kids are free.
A Better Lackawanna Information Table will be at The Montclair Farmers’ Market, on Nov. 16, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Some eateries are creating special Lackawanna-themed items for the day to benefit the legal fund. Look for a map to shop at our Farmers Market table and signs in stores listing what to items buy to help the fundraising effort. Businesses participating include: Layers of Flavors, Cucina 98, Le Salbuen, Luisa’s, Panzano Pizzeria, Mezoco Food Truck, Ray’s Luncheonette, Red Eye Cafe, Ruthie’s B-B-Q and Sal’s Gastronomia.
APPEAL UPDATE
A Better Lackawanna LLC is composed of 201 individuals who have signed on as plaintiffs in the appeal. Originally the appeal was filed June 21 with 11 individuals; and subsequently a motion to amend added an additional 190 plaintiffs. The defendants, the Montclair Planning Board and the later added defendants The Pinnacle Companies and The Hampshire Companies, motioned to dismiss the additional 190 plaintiffs. Although Judge Keith E. Lynott ruled to allow the added plaintiffs, the defendants appealed that decision. Oral arguments for and against allowing the additional 190 plaintiffs will be heard in Essex County Superior Court on Friday, Nov. 15.
