Look: Rao’s Homemade and Giving Tuesday
Today, Tuesday, May 5, is has been declared "Giving Tuesday" in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Givingtuesday.org, "GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world."
Locally, several organizations are asking residents to give.
This week’s lineup will feature Buddy Valastro (best known as Cake Boss - and a Jersey native!) and Chef Geoffrey Zakarian. For Buddy Valastro’s IG Live on Giving Tuesday, Rao’s is upping the ante for one day only: for anyone who submits a photo of that day’s featured recipe, we will donate five meals to Jersey Cares.
In addition to a monetary donation, Rao’s is offering a “Make One, Give One” component – for every fan who makes one of the featured dishes at home and posts tagging @raoshomemade and #Sauce4Cause, Rao’s Homemade will donate one meal to a family in need via Jersey Cares.
Gail Simmons’ spaghetti pie was the recipe du jour on “Sauce for Cause,” an Instagram Live cooking series hosted by Rao’s Homemade, which is based in Montclair. The series is broadcast on Rao’s page, @RaosHomemade or instagram.com/raoshomemade.
Rao’s is partnering with chefs, personalities and foodies including Simmons, a judge on “Top Chef,” Danielle Monaro, Serena Wolf, Dawn Perry and others to make recipes and encourage fans to make them too. For every fan who makes one of the featured dishes at home using the hashtag #Sauce4Cause and tagging Rao’s, Rao’s Homemade will donate one meal to a family in need via Jersey Cares.
Fans must tag #Sauce4Cause within one week of the video’s live date.
