Trigg-Scales steps down as MHS interim; school hopes for permanent principal next week

Terry Trigg-Scales stepped down as interim principal of Montclair High School as of today, Oct. 30. Assistant Principal Eileen Gilbert will serve as interim principal in the meantime.
District officials said they hope to have a permanent principal selected sometime next week. No information was available for the reason behind her departure.
Trigg-Scales has served as interim since September, after former principal Anthony Grosso resigned to become the new superintendent of schools in Cedar Grove.
“The families, students and staff of Montclair High as well as our entire district truly appreciate her service, especially during these challenging times. We wish her the best,” Superintendent Jonathan Ponds said in a letter to MHS parents late Friday afternoon.
A public forum with the candidates for principal will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. The link to the forum was sent out to parents in a letter on Oct. 30.
Each of the candidates will give a 15-minute presentation based on data from the New Jersey Department of Education’s 2018-2019 report card for Montclair High School. Each candidate will also answer questions from the audience for 30 minutes.
Ponds said the district anticipates making a final decision appointing a principal by Tuesday, Nov. 3.
