Montclair High School senior Annura Hamilton spent much of Tuesday as the Mounties’ middle hitter during their 2-0 sweep of Newark Academy, helping set balls up for others as well as sending a few of her own over the net for points. Like many on the Mounties varsity squad, Hamilton has been with coach Pam Reilly for four years, and that has helped a very tight group to form.
“We’ve been like family and I have a sisterhood. I know if I have an issue or if I need someone to talk to, I have, like, a thousand [sisters] around me,” Hamilton said after the win over Newark. “But it’s also very bittersweet because it’s our last time playing on the court after four years together.”
Like the rest of the Mounties, Hamilton’s goal this season is a run in the state and county tournaments — the deeper the run, the better. For herself, though, she’s looking to improve at every position and become a more well-rounded player.
What do you like to do with your free time?
I love to listen to music, hang out with friends, and travel.
What music do you listen to?
I like to listen to R&B and Soul music. I like ’90s throwbacks, that’s my go-to.
Where have you traveled and where do you want to travel to?
My favorite place I’ve been to has probably been Cancun, Mexico. We went there for a wedding and it was really fun. The place I would really like to go to is South Africa. Seems like a cool place to go.
What’s your favorite school subject?
Favorite subjects are science and math. And this year I’m taking anatomy and physiology, which is interesting because when I go to college, I want to study physical therapy. So, it’s really helping me get to know more about a subject I want to pursue.
What TV show do you like?
”This Is Us.” It’s a really good show and I definitely recommend it.
What is your favorite movie?
“Love and Basketball.”
What books do you like?
I’m like a magazine-type person. My favorite ones are Vice and Complex.
If you could have dinner with any three people, who would they be?
Tupac Shakur, Michelle Obama and my mom.
