Montclair Blues Youth Rugby announces registration
Montclair Blues Youth Rugby announces that registration is now open for their co‐ed youth flag rugby program. The six-week program kicks off on June 11 with practice in the Meadow at Brookdale Park and ends on July 21.
The program is for girls and boys currently in kindergarten through eighth grades. Practice is Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and games will be played in nearby towns on Saturday mornings.
Youth flag rugby is a co‐ed non‐contact version of rugby designed to introduce kids to rugby in a fun, enjoyable and low pressure way. Prior experience and knowledge of rugby are definitely not required. Simple rules makes youth flag rugby easy to learn and parent coaches ensure that lots of running around with the ball and having fun are the priority. Everyone plays, everyone scores and everyone wins.
Girls are welcome. Montclair parent and Montclair Blues Youth Rugby founder and Co-Director Jason O’Connor says that “Girls have loads of fun” playing in a co-ed league and that “Flag rugby is a wonderful learning experience for girls and boys.”
If you are unsure if your child would like flag rugby, just show up a little early to the first practice and tried it out….no fee. Practice will start at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 11 in the Meadow at Brookdale Park.
Cost is $99 per child ($89 per child for additional children) plus an additional $50 for a full uniform, if needed. A practice jersey is given to each registrant. Scholarships are available.
