Culture In Brief: Montclair Early Music starts group for beginners
Montclair Early Music has launched a new group for beginning level adult recorder players.
The new group "The Musettes" is geared for adults who want to play music with others in a small group, just for fun. The group will meet bi-weekly in Montclair. Montclair Early Music also has have openings in its Intermediate and Advanced groups.
Montclair Early Music’s focus is on music from before 1800, including beautiful music from the Baroque, Renaissance, and Medieval periods with an occasional Jazz or modern piece. They write, “These sessions offer the perfect opportunity for those who played an instrument in high school and want to play music again. The recorder is easy to learn and comes in various voices: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, making it easy to form a consort.”
Montclair Early Music’s advanced group performs several concerts a year. Its most recent performance took place on Jan. 13, a Wassail/Twelfth night celebration, with audience participation. The next performance will be a May Day Celebration complete with May Pole and Robin Hood.
Montclair Early Music composed of amateur and professional musicians, established in 2010 by Julienne Pape. It has have performed locally at community events including Glen Ridge Mayoral Reception, Montclair YMCA, Montclair Historical Society, Victorian Society, Presby Iris Gardens, and more.
