Football: Mounties make it two in a row, trouncing Livingston 41-0 – Rapid Reaction

The first two weeks of the season could not have gone better for the Montclair High School football team. The Mounties rolled again Friday night, dismantling the Livingston Lancers 41-0 for their second win in a row.
As was the case last week against Passaic Tech, the Mounties piled on the points in the first quarter, getting a 28-0 lead before the first twelve minutes of the game were up. They then added another touchdown less than ten seconds into the second quarter.
By the time the half rolled around, the starters were getting some rest after having dropped 41 points on the hapless Lancers.
Senior tailback Danny Webb ripped off 124 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries. It truly boggles the mind to think what Webb could do if he actually played a whole game, considering he has totaled 238 yards and seven touchdowns in just 19 carries.
The entire backfield, in fact, has yet to show us what they are truly capable of. We have seen glimpses—such as junior Willie Matthews' touchdown and 83 yards on just a pair of carries, and fellow junior Josh Crawford's second big touchdown run of the year to get called back due to a flag.
This is a three headed monster, and it hasn't even awakened.
The passing offense similarly seems to be waiting to blow up. Senior quarterback and Bucknell commit Tarrin Earle hasn't needed to bring all his ability to bear yet, given how easily the Mounties have been scoring.
Yet, like the backfield, you get to see what Earle can do when he uncorks a long pass to junior receiver Charles Murphy while scrambling to avoid the pass rush. Ditto getting to see what Murphy can do as he goes up and extends his body to catch that ball for a touchdown.
And all the while the Mounties defense is stifling opposing offenses, choking the life out of them as they relentlessly attack the quarterback and mercilessly lunging for picks in the secondary.
Of course, the most critical thing for a game like this is for everyone to come out healthy, and MHS achieved that as well. Now they have two weeks to rest, recuperate and prepare for Union City, a team which has derailed this team the last two years.
For the Mounties, this will be their first big test.
