Montclair High School girls swim team takes title again

The Montclair girls swimming team sure likes taking on Ridgewood because it signals that it is for a state championship.

The Mounties made it back-to-back North 1 Group A state sectional champions on Thursday afternoon as they defeated Ridgewood again this season

And while the match was a little closer this season, the Mounties still won 100-70 over Ridgewood. With the victory, Montclair raised its record to 11-0.

On Thursday at Passaic Tech in Wayne, Montclair had the lead from the start in the first event in the 200-medley relay and would never relinquish the lead. The Mounties would win eight of the 11 events.

Last season in the North 1 Group A sectional final, Montclair defeated Ridgewood, 124-66.

Montclair moves on to the Group A semifinals on February 21. Last season, the Mounties lost to Westfield, in the Group A semis. Westfield is there again in Group A and are considered the top girls swim team in the state.
