Montclair High School swimming teams ride wave to the state sectional championships

The Montclair High School girls and boys swim teams pulled off a sweep on Monday night in the North 1 Group A state semifinals at Montclair State University.

The top-seeded Mounties girls ran away from fourth-seeded Morristown, 112-58. Montclair moves on to the sectional finals on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Passaic Tech against the winner of second-seeded Ridgewood-third-seeded Passaic Tech (meet is Tuesday, Feb. 14, after press deadline).

On the boys side Montclair had a tougher time but the top Mounties scorers put up the times and second-seeded Montclair defeated third-seeded Ridgewood, 95-75. The Mounties won eight of 11 events that helped to counter Ridgewood's deeper lineup.

Montclair boys swimmers will take on the winner of top-seeded Passaic Tech-fourth-seeded Livingston (meet is Tuesday, Feb. 14, after press deadline) on Friday, Feb. 17, at Passaic Tech.

On the girls side Montclair won nine of the 11 events including the first seven races that helped propel the Mounties over Morristown and to their second state sectional title appearance in back-to-back seasons.

Montclair won the 2022 North 1 Group A sectional title over Ridgewood at Passaic Tech. The Mounties girls would eventually fall in the next round against Westwood in the 2022 Group A semifinal.
