The Montclair Kimberley Academy field hockey team might have fallen short of a state title, but the Cougars added another Prep B championship to their resume.

Though they lost 5-1 to Oak Knoll in the Non Public semifinals round on Nov. 8, the Cougars (15-7-1) collected the 2022 Prep B title by defeating Princeton Day, 5-2, on Oct. 27 at home.

With the 2022 trophy Montclair Kimberley has made it an even 10 Prep B titles since 2009. After the Prep B tournament was canceled in 2020 because of COVID, the Cougars defeated Stuart Day, 1-0, to win the 2021 Prep B Tournament before making it back-to-back championships by defeating Princeton Day for this season's crown.

In the 2022 Prep Tournament championship match, Montclair Kimberley pulled away in the fourth quarter against Princeton Day after being up 2-1 after the first three periods.

The Cougars had a balanced attack, with five different players scoring: senior Natalie Yu, juniors Mimi Temkin and Lucy Osterberg, and freshmen Shea Murphy and Julia Flocco.

On the other side of the field, MKA goalkeeper Malia Cesareo made 14 saves.
