The League of Women Voters of the Montclair Area hosted a nature hike and cleanup at Eagle Rock Reservation Saturday, the first event planned by the group’s Environmental Issues Committee.

The event, part of the “We Love Eagle Rock Reservation” program, was arranged in partnership with the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, the New Jersey Sierra Club and the Eagle Rock Conservancy, according to committee chair Norm Solomon.

“You already know of the League for its hard work in support of voting rights and voter knowledge and access,” Solomon told Montclair Local. “However, in addition thereto we have undertaken a more assertive approach in environmental issues in 2022, and on into the future.”

Adults and children gathered for a hike led by experienced trailsmen and cleaned up the trail as they walked, preparing the park for the spring and summer hiking and nature savoring seasons, according to a League of Women Voters press release.

“We Love Eagle Rock Reservation” programming will continue through the summer and fall, with events focused on planting indigenous plants, waterway and soil remediation and more, the release says.
