Montclair man arrested in Newark on robbery, assault charges
A Montclair man was arrested following a fight and a robbery in Newark early Saturday morning.
Jason Josaphat, 27, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, robbery and aggravated assault on a police officer, according to a statement released by the Newark Department of Public Safety.
According to the statement, police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at 3:48 a.m. at a Domino’s Pizza located in the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue. Josaphat and an unidentified male were in a car together when they got into an argument that escalated into a fight, the statement said.
It was reported that Josaphat attempted to steal personal items from the victim who ran into the Domino’s. Josaphat ran after the victim but the pizzeria’s employees locked the doors, and it was reported that Josaphat smashed the doors in an attempt to get inside.
New Jersey State Police troopers in the area detained Josaphat and turned him over to Newark police. The charges against Josaphat include robbery and criminal mischief for breaking the Domino’s door, as well as aggravated assault for spitting on police officers while he was being processed.
