The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and  East Orange Police Department are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred in East Orange on Sunday morning that left a pedestrian — a Montclair resident — seriously injured.

The collision occurred 1:23 a.m. Sunday, July 31, on the 400 block of Central Avenue in East Orange, according prosecutor's office officials.

The 40-year-old Montclair man was taken to University Hospital, where he is being treated for "serious bodily injuries," according to a press release sent out by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office  on Monday, Aug. 1. The name of the victim was not released.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is active and ongoing, according to the press release.
