Kiefer Bernard, an eighth grade student at Buzz Aldrin Middle School, has won the National Association for Music Education 2022 Student Composers Competition in the kindergarten through eighth grade division for his piece titled "Battle Cry."

The composition was written for soprano and piano, according to Kiefer's father, Rob Bernard. The piece's style "has been compared to and is reminiscent of 20th-century composers Igor Stravinsky and Olivier Messiaen," Bernard said.

"Battle Cry" will be premiered in concert at the National Association for Music Education's national convention in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 4.

Other competition winners can be found on the National Association for Music Education website.
