Montclair officers receive Valor Awards
Officers Nicole Muccio, Jillian Sofield and Glenda Rivera and Detective Anjannette Sanders of the Montclair Police Department were recipients of 2019-2021 Women in Law Enforcement Valor Awards.
In 2021, officers Sofield and Muccio assisted in a crisis call with a male who had threatened to shoot his father. During the investigation, a loaded handgun was found near the male and secured. The male was ultimately transported to a hospital to receive mental health treatment.
In 2021, Sanders was on assignment as the school resource officer at Montclair High School when a fire started in a bathroom on the second floor. Sanders assisted in extinguishing the fire before it became widespread.
Rivera, as part of the LGBTQ Law Enforcement Liaison Organization, received the 2020 Benefactors Award from the N.J. Women in Law Enforcement.
The awards ceremony was held May 17 at the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge.
