Montclair police blotter: Aug. 13, 2020
Wednesday, Aug. 5 — A 35-year-old Jersey City resident was charged with driving while intoxicated on Bloomfield Avenue.
Sunday, Aug. 9 — A 21-year-old Montclair resident was charged with two counts of burglary after police responded to a call of a male attempting to enter vehicles parked in driveways along Montclair Avenue.
Thursday, Aug. 6 — Police were called to Gates Avenue at 9:15 p.m. on a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle in progress. The caller reported seeing a subject entering a motor vehicle before pulling on the door handles to other motor vehicles. The suspect was last seen walking toward the area of Cross Street.
Cuban Pete’s in Montclair was charged with an executive order violation for allowing indoor dining on the premises on Friday, Aug. 7. In New Jersey under Gov. Phil Murphy’s Executive Order, restaurants and bars are still prohibited from offering indoor dining during the pandemic.
Police went to the restaurant, accompanied by a representative from the Montclair Health Department, after receiving complaints that the restaurant was offering indoor dining. When police arrived, they found several outdoor tables occupied, but the tables were not spaced to allow for social distancing. Inside the restaurant police saw two dining areas, one with three tables and one with two. The owner said the inside patrons seated themselves when the weather changed to rain.
Wednesday, Aug. 5 — An Elmwood Avenue resident reported that her vehicle was stolen from in front of her residence.
Thursday, Aug. 6 — A vehicle owner reported that one of the license plates to her vehicle was stolen on Tichenor Place.
Friday, Aug. 7 — A Montague Place resident reported that her bicycle was stolen from the side of her residence.
Sunday, Aug. 9 — An employee at the CVS on Claremont Avenue reported that at 10:20 a.m., a suspect exited the store without paying for merchandise. The suspect was last seen on a bicycle traveling south on Pine Street.
Sunday, Aug. 9 — An Elm Street property owner reported that a package containing approximately $60 in merchandise was stolen from his property. Surveillance footage indicates that the theft occurred at approximately 1:05 p.m. on Aug. 7
Sunday, Aug. 9 — A Bloomfield Avenue property owner reported that a tire was stolen from his property.
Monday, Aug. 10 — A Mission Street resident reported that her son’s bicycle was stolen from her front porch the previous day at approximately 10 a.m.
Thursday, Aug. 6 — A vehicle owner reported finding two dents on her motor vehicle on South Mountain Avenue. She stated that the damage appeared to have been done by fists.
Saturday, Aug. 8 — Police received an anonymous complaint of vandalism on Chestnut Street. It was discovered that “ACAB” had been spray-painted in red twice on the Forest Street side of the train trestle.
