Arrests

Tuesday, Aug. 25—A 17-year-old juvenile from Montclair was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, obstruction by flight, and possession of marijuana after running from officers who were investigating an earlier reported theft.

Tuesday, Aug. 25—A 40-year-old Newark resident was arrested in the area of Bloomfield and Glenridge avenues and charged with two counts of burglary and criminal mischief, stemming from an earlier reported burglary to motor vehicles at St. Luke’s Church on South Fullerton Avenue. 

Sunday, Aug. 30—A 39-year-old Bloomfield resident was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Bloomfield Avenue.

Sunday, Aug. 30—A 31-year-old Newark resident was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Bloomfield Avenue. 

Robbery

Tuesday, Aug. 25—A victim reported that while walking in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Pine Street, a person approached her from behind and grabbed her purse. The victim struggled with the thief, who knocked her to the ground. The victim began to scream, which caused the thief to flee south towards Glenfield Park.

Arson

Friday, Aug. 28—At approximately 11:59 p.m., police responded to the area of 7 St. Luke’s Place on a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, they found a 2010 Toyota Corolla fully engulfed in flames, and a 2014 Range Rover that had fire damage. This is an active investigation between the Montclair police and fire departments.

Burglary

Monday, Aug. 31—A property owner reported that someone entered a vacant residence currently under renovation on Franklin Place. Approximately $10,000 worth of copper piping was removed from the basement. An air conditioner, three saws and a ladder were also taken. 

Dispute

Wednesday, Aug. 26—Police responded to the Dunkin Donuts on Bloomfield Avenue on a report of a physical altercation. The manager reported that six to seven female juveniles entered the store and requested free donuts. The manager reported that the girls were not wearing masks, and became unruly. When asked to leave, the group became abusive. One female assaulted the manager, while another attempted to get behind the counter. Two customers observed the altercation and attempted to intervene. The females reportedly attacked the customers before fleeing toward Church Street. No injuries were reported. 

Friday, Aug. 28—Police responded to Antika Grill on Bloomfield Avenue. A physical altercation began between two groups seated at tables. Property damage was done to several plates and glasses. Two patrons sustained lacerations to their feet and minor scratches as a result of the broken glass. 

Theft

Thursday, Aug. 27—A Franklin Avenue resident reported that an electric bicycle was stolen from his rear yard sometime during the afternoon. The bicycle was reportedly locked at the time of the theft. The responding officer located the bike abandoned on Fremont Street in West Orange and returned it to the victim. 

Saturday, Aug. 29— A vehicle owner reported that his 2009 Toyota Camry was stolen from the rear parking lot on Gates Avenue during the overnight hours.

Saturday, Aug. 29—A Nishuane Road resident reported that a person entered two of his vehicles that were parked in his driveway overnight. Approximately $15 in change was stolen from one of the cars. 

Sunday, Aug. 30—A 2008 Acura TL was stolen from the driveway at an Orange Road residence overnight.

Sunday, Aug. 30—A Harrison Avenue resident reported that an Amazon package that had been delivered to his home was stolen. Surveillance video showed an individual walking up the driveway and taking the package, and then exiting, possibly heading north on Harrison Avenue. 

Suspicious Activity

Friday, Aug. 28—A Bloomfield Avenue resident reported that while he was sitting in his dining room, he saw an unknown person walk into his apartment. Upon seeing the resident, the suspect fled.

Sunday, Aug. 30—A Pennsylvania resident contacted the Montclair Police Department to report an unknown person attempting to open the door to his mother’s Montclair residence on his surveillance camera. Entry was not gained to the residence.

Monday, Aug. 31—The security guard at Pineridge of Montclair reported observing five to six males attempting to open several vehicles parked in the parking lot. When confronted, the males fled.
