Montclair property owners should expect their 2021 final and 2022 preliminary tax bills within the next two weeks, with third-quarter payment deadlines being delayed.

Although third-quarter taxes are typically due Aug. 1, the township has granted an extended grace period to Sept. 10, Montclair Communications Director Katya Wowk said.

Property owners typically would only have a 10-day grace period from when a quarterly tax bill is due to pay it without the town adding interest to it.

The delay in billing is due to a delay in receiving Montclair’s certified tax rate from the county, township officials said. The township received the tax rate on Monday, July 26, Wowk said.

“According to the tax collector, we received the tax rate earlier this week and should have the amounts next week. The bills will be sent out after that,” Communications Director Katya Wowk said Friday.

Wowk said the township chose not to send out estimated tax bills as a cost-saving measure.

“Estimated bills cost us money for printing services and postage. This way we save taxpayer dollars,” she said.
